Bought mine several years ago in Shanghai. It's the decorated one and came with a sound chip. Have to say I haven't really run it. Initial issues seemed to be with pickup ... the sound chip kept loosing power (it's since been swapped for a normal chip). However, it's been sat in the display case for a couple of years.

Have just revived the garage layout so will give it a thrash in the next few days and report back.

Cheers

Just put it on the track and remembered one problem. Pickup is atrocious (that caused the sound problem). Not sure what the real issue is. The JF suffers as well. I need to do a thorough clean of wheels and contacts before I can do any more.

Bachmann did seem to take a step backwards with their newer releases ... are the still in the Chinese model business? Other manufacturers are way ahead of them now.

Paul

Further update ... works fine on DC but intermittent pickup on DCC despite pu on all drivers and tender wheels. My gut feeling is there's some coating on the wheels ... I certainly needed to give the driver rims a good scrub but I guess the back of the wheels also need a clean. A job for tomorrow ;-)

Other than that, my gut feeling is that detailing is not up to the previous Bachmann models. I guess the decorations don't help but an obvious one is there is no hole below the shortish chimney which stands out ... easy to fix. I'll post some detailed shots once I've sorted the pickups.

Thanks, it's the detail as much as the running that interests/concerns me.

Looking forward to more details

Detail photos here ...

Detailing is variable. Tender body detail fairly basic. Transfers instead of plates and head boards thick plastic. Hopefully some of these will be less apparent on a non-decorated version.

Detail doesn't compare very well with the real thing

Looks like Bachmann had lost interest by this time ... though the JF is slightly better.

The pickup problem is down to the loco-tender connection. The clip holding the plug/socket is not very robust. The loco works fine on the test stand but on the track becomes intermittent. It's exacerbated due to a slight side-to-side waddle. Radical surgery is called for.

Also one of the drivers seats is loose and is wedged between the boiler and cab side. Haven't worked out how to release it yet!
